Time to get back to the adventure. Last we left off, we were still in
Placerville Ca., and at the
Gold Bug Park and Mine. We went into the actual mine, and explored the Stamp Mill. That was so much fun and we really felt we got our 10.00 worth out of that experience!
We headed on back towards home on HWY 49, but we saw a sign that said "Georgetown." We had mentioned last time were in
Coloma , that we wanted to explore this town. So turning on HWY 193 and we were on our way. The scenery was beautiful, and we were thoroughly enjoying the new views, and before we knew it, we were in the darling town of
Georgetown.
Something to see at every turn. If it had been earlier in the day ( it was 4:30 at the time) we would have explored the antique store ( it is in the sadly too dark photo) , and I am sure we would have found a treasure or two...and I know we would have stopped at one of the small bistros or maybe even the coffee shop above, and explored the market ( below) as it looked like it had a bit of everything!
We did take time to see a few of the historical buildings...
We thought this one would be wonderful to explore the interior on our next visit....
We just love seeing the interiors when we get a chance...and next time we are in Georgetown , we will be sure to do that!
They had Taco Tuesday and Wednesday, 1.00 each between 5-7 pm....maybe next time, as it sounded YUMMY! Not the food you would think to order here, but what a bargain!! Then there was this building....
The sun was beginning to hang a bit lower, so the perfect time to explore the cemetery!
Look at this tree! Soooo spooky!!!
There was other areas that we explored, other than Georgetown. We went out on a road that lead out of town ...later finding out it was the
Rubicon trail, or part of it. It was a road that wound in and around the El Dorado National Forest. We were hunting first for
Volcanoville. We found the sign...
and we eagerly drove down the heavily wooded road that seemed to go on and on with little more than a few homesteads....it was beautiful, but there did not seem to be much more to Volcanoville ....
We decided that we would turn back...cause is to many of our experiences, towns like Kelsy, Quintette ( though you can see University Falls there and it was once a mine and logging camp) and Virner, are many times little more than a plaque announcing it once was there and wishes to be remembered. When we got home I looked up Volcanoville, and I guess we did not drive far enough and so next time we will have to commit...there is a ghost town out there in the middle of nowhere....so next time. After we gave up the search, we headed back , we decided to try to find some of the other towns mentioned above , and never did , but we did see Stumpy Meadow Boat Ramp....
Look at this....what a wonderful treasure in the middle of the forest.....
We continued on ....even seeing a sign where we did not expect to, it was for heading towards Foresthill, one of the towns that started all this adventure road trip business a couple months back...
We did not turn there, but kept going, deciding to search out Uncle Tom's Cabin, which was reported to be an old stage coach stop , and was now open as a bar for beer and snacks in the middle of nowhere!! And it was ...this is the drive, some 25 miles from Georgetown :
and we were rewarded with this....
we did not stay to explore, knowing it was getting later and later , and we needed to get back home...so we turned around and headed back home, back down HWY 193, back to HWY49 , and on home.....
And so concludes this past adventure! As always I urge you to get out and explore your own backyard and create an adventure of your own! For little more than a tank of gas you can discover places you did not know where there, learn more about the history of your area that you live and create memories!
What a delightful trip we have shared! And, I didn't gain a pound... thank you for all the beautiful and informative pics... very much looking forward to your sojourn... come visit when you can...
