I Shine, Here's Your Chance!

Photobucket" />

The other day my friend Ashley over at The Shine Project posted to Twitter about having a wonderful project coming up an wanted bloggers to help out. Of course I contacted her and asked what I could do. It was so very simple. I could help get her message spread, get the word out. How could I not help? She sent me this wonderful video to watch ..... It inspired me, it made me smile and it made me agree a second time to dedicate today's blog to her project.

I emailed her and explained that though I could not seem to get local stores to take a jar, and I truly did not have much to donate, as I had given all spare things I still had left to get rid of to the local Goodwill who help handicapped adults get job training and employment , I could do the simple act of promoting her mission and hopefully others would see it and do the same and maybe even join in. I asked her to send me her "press release" quote, wanting to put the correct words to her goals. Here's what she had to say....

"Let's make a difference in inner city school students lives and help send them to college. In October, there is going to be a big SHINE event to raise money for the SHINE scholarship fund. It is a silent auction, and if you have any items you would be willing to donate, email me at ashley.theshineproject@gmail.com. Leading up to the event we will be doing CHANGE FOR CHANGE jars. Throw your leftover change until October in your jar, and then send the money to the fund! All proceeds will go directly into changing the lives of kids who just need some extra support. SHINE ON friends! "  ** Here is a LINK to what she further has to say on her blog.

Ashley also sent me photos of the labels that you can save to your computer and print out to make your own change jars to distribute in your area....... or she will send you the labels to apply to your jars.......

Ashley has some pretty big goals, but truly in the scheme of things if when she succeeds, it will make even bigger changes! Her hopes and goal in her own words....

"My goal is to raise $20,000 for The Shine Project Scholarship Fund by the end of October. The money will specifically be going to four students at Cesar Chavez High School in Phoenix, Arizona....."

"....If you think about it, $100 really isn't that much. But when 100 people ban together to make a difference, $10,000 suddenly is able to change 2 student's lives .... "

So there you have it. I hope you are inspired to help in any way you can. Whatever you are comfortable with doing.I was sitting in front of my computer after reading her letter to me, knowing that money pay check to pay check is still unpredictable, often there is not much change to spare, I have nothing left to donate ( at this time anyway)  and saying is just writing a blog enough, is getting the word out enough? Do I have any power to help at all with simply posting this, simply sparing some time to compose this blog, OF COURSE I DO! YOU DO TOO! All it takes is ONE! One person to say I can get a jar placed, I can spare my change, I have items I do not need, I have a group willing to help out, and even if you can not see any of that happening, maybe YOU have a blog post to spare to spread the word, perhaps you know of someone, or they do. It only takes one match to light a huge fire, and you can be that match! So no matter how small your efforts or how big, it will all matter! Let your own light shine and help others to shine in the process!
