Take a Drive With Me

Not me...but I wish *giggle*

Yesterday hubby and I decided we wanted to take a drive among the foothills, soak in the unseasonably warm January sunshine. Of course we also had a goal to pick up an order of wine we had waiting for us. So with a cup of joe or two and an English muffin in the tummy, we were off...destination Apple Hill region near Placerville California.

We headed first to Fenton Harriot ( you have read about this lovely winery on more than one occasion in my recounts of our day's out) and we picked up our wine, and of course had a tasting or two (responsibly of course, they were tiny )then it was time to refuel so lunch! We had always passed a cafe on the side of Hwy 50 on the way up to South Lake Tahoe by the name of Red Apple Cafe, and since it was on our way to our next destination we pulled over and found a place to park. I simply had to snap a few photos of the view....

2740 Hwy. 50, Placerville Ca. (530) 626-8144. Opening at 7 a.m. they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Be sure to take some pie home...Apple Hill region is well known for pie!

This is from the parking lot! You can see the whole foothill valley!
This is the entrance...so cute and charming.

Inside is a real mash up of found items, but had a certain roadside charm as well.

Sorry no pics of lunch...we were too hungry and it was all so yummy! A bit on the pricey side for us, but we were not disappointed. The burgers to die for on home made buns, and the BLT mmmmmm

After we ate we walked out on the new patio and  soaked in the amazing views!

Of course hubby was sure to snap off a few pics of me to share.

After we were 100% relaxed by a delish lunch and soaking in the wonderful rays of sunshine and the view, we headed to our next destination. We looked through the travel guides we had collected over all our visits through the area and picked a winery to drive to that we had seen once, but had not tried. So on the road again, traveling off the hwy way and through twisty back roads we ended up at Sierra Vista Vineyards & Winery to round out our day. I am so pleased that we did!

The road in
"Sierra Vista Winery produces  Rhone Style wines from Syrah (Shiraz), Rousanne and Viognier. Because of our varied micro- climates due to the mountain terrain we also have suitable terroir for Mourvedre, Cinsault and Grenache. Our first plantings in 1974, 1976, 1979 and 1982 were Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah and Chardonnay.  These vines were planted on their own roots, that is they were not grafted onto rootstock. " * via website...read more, and find out contact info: HERE

The vines know it is Winter, even if it did not feel like it!

Lovely picnic grounds, great wine, great view, great people...what more could you desire?

Look closely you can see the Sierra's in the distance. Normally snow capped this time of year, they are still brown from it being so dry.

This way to great wine, and even better people!

Not long now, just through these doors.
This is Barbara & John MacCready, the Owners and wine makers...Such a wonderful couple! *pic via their web site.
This is Lynzee...She was our hostess, Such a total doll to be sure! We even got to taste a few extras and we had wonderful conversation. She was not aware I was taking a pic til I snapped this, but she was a grand sport! We spent quite a while there, sipping and talking, and then it was time to head home ( again no worries, we took tiny sips, and poured out...no driving under the influence here!

As we headed on home, could not help but snap a few pics of nearby farms ...could not get over the perfection of the sheep next to a red barn among the rolling hills!

And DEER! This was in someones front yard. Hubby pulled over and let me snap a few pics before moving on. I was practically giddy!
All in all it was a wonderful day, very relaxing and just what was needed after being cooped up over the holidays. Hope you enjoyed "coming along" ....till next we meet....*cheers*
