Yesterday I spent the earlier part of the day, after a light Spring shower, puttering in the garden here at Muse Cottage, being eager to share how much it has grown, despite the heat and my brown thumb, I wanted to spruce it up and planned to photograph it in the late day light. I now have many photos I took yesterday evening, but not just the garden in the late day sun, but, sharing what started out as another light shower moving through as evening time was upon us.
I was excited... when we lived in Texas, these type of storms rolled through on a regular basis, and I was eager to sit outside, as I would do there, in my pajama's and sip a cup of tea and watch the rain drops fall, and enjoy the freshness of the air sans the normal exhaust smell that can build during the day. Camera in hand and garden shoes slipped on, I headed out.

I always enjoy when the sun is shining and yet rain is falling... always a wonderful time to look for rainbows! |
Situated at the little table on the porch, I began to snap photos as the rain begun to get heavier .... |
...and heavier... |
Love how the light plays on the green of the plants, and all the shadows. |
The plants start to bow down under the drops |
This little bee got caught in the rain, then ran into the wall of the cottage, stunned it was on the patio for quite sometime. |
As the rain increases, so does the volume of water ! |
The sun continued to shine, despite the showers that was now in my eyes, and I am sure others, actually a full on rain storm. |
The roadway starts to flood.... |
The plants really start to flatten out from the force of the down pour. |
The longer I sat there, the heavier the rain got, and even some wind kicked up. |
One thing for sure, it makes everything so pretty, bright, clean and sparkly even. |
Soon, it was evident as the thunder got closer and the rain got heavier that it was not going to stop any time soon. |
So pretty...Mother Nature and God are the greatest of artists! |
The storm picking up speed and strength, the news put out flood warnings, our area was first on the list, and on the news they showed the close by highway flooded so bad, the water was up to the car doors! Same for Mid-Town Sacramento. |
The flooding along our front portion of our property quickly rising. |
The front walk started to fill with water.... |
...and it became a river.. washing out dirt from the future flower bed that I had been working on before coming down with an illness and not being able to get finished. Wood chip and rock and mud washed down the walk towards the street. |
My poor bunny statue and the small climbing rose next to it was caught in the onslaught of the water... it was so bad that the gutters could not even keep up and began to over flow! |
If you look close, as night fell, in the aftermath of the storm, I was left with quite the mess to have to clean up ... thinking I need to put in edging for sure! |
The storm continued on, lighter at times, and heavier at times over the course of the evening, the flood warnings in effect till 11 pm, and the report of so many accidents on the news , scenes of areas around us that I had never seen flooded, all because a little Spring shower decided to become a Spring Storm. Today I cleaned up the dirt, mud, and runaway wood chip mulch and snapped a few photos of the garden here at Muse Cottage, what a difference a day makes.

One of the antique roses I bought a couple of weeks ago , already blessing me with blooms. |
Everything is now very lush and green! Growing like gangbusters! |
I just love this post. I felt I was there with you on a walk. I love walking in the rain (with an umbrella). It is just so much fun. Do you see a rainbow? :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see the progression of that storm! Glad your delicate plants survived...sometimes it can really beat them down!
